The sweater that outlasts the size.
Rib knit from 100% merino wool, the Hopu Top is the layer parents come back to season after season. Warm enough for forest school and ski days, slim enough to disappear under a snowsuit, and soft enough that even sensory-sensitive kids wear it without complaint. Size up and cuff the sleeves - most children get two to three years out of a single top, and many are passed on to younger siblings still in great shape.
It breathes, regulates temperature, and resists odour naturally - so it goes weeks between washes no matter how hard it's worn.
Features
- Rib knit expands with growth - designed to be sized up and cuffed
- Temperature regulating - warm as a standalone, low-profile enough to layer under snowsuits and jackets
- Naturally anti-odour - rarely needs washing
- Sensory-friendly - soft enough for sensitive skin, zero itch
- OEKO-TEX® 100 certified free from harmful chemicals
- 100% merino wool — chlorine free, mulesing free
Sizing note
The Hopu is designed with generous sleeves so you can size up and cuff, extending the life of each top across multiple seasons. Most parents size up one size and cuff the sleeves - the rib knit keeps the cuff neat and close to the wrist rather than bunching.
Composition
100% merino wool - chlorine free, mulesing free.

We love the knit leggings and have been sizing up each year for a few years. We always buy 2-3 of the Hopu tops to go with our 2-3 pairs of the knit leggings, and that's the core of my child's winter wardrobe. When it's really chilly, we use the top as a base layer, but when it's a little less chilly, we use it as a sweater over a lighter layer, or just on its own. Both the Hopu tops and the knit leggings have held up really well, and we've been able to pass them on still in really good shape to other kids. (And I second what another reviewer said-- size up and cuff, and they will last you multiple seasons.)
Love this top but does run a little large.
I purchased the Hopu top (size 18-24 months) in kelp for my 9 month old infant son and he is still wearing it at 27 months! The arms are getting a bit small, so I just order a 2T in oatmeal. The fabric is soft and stretchy, thereby allowing for movement, and can be dressed up for special occasions. It is not bulky but thick enough to keep him warm under a coat in the winter or to wear as an outer layer between seasons. It is our go-to sweater and my favorite item from Nui.
We have these in a few colors. They’re the best mid-layer I have found for super cold outings. They also work great as a cute outer layer in the fall and spring. They’re incredibly soft and cozy. I sized up a size or so for growth room, the sleeves fold nicely without getting bulky.
I have used the Hopu top for all of my toddlers. They have wore through plenty of outdoor play. It has not only kept them warm but has held up perfectly. I also am thankful to use this fiber of clothing for my child who becomes easily skin irritation with synthetic fibers. Nui chooses beautiful quality.
